On the hot summer evening of 26 August, our friends from Royal Bangkok Sports Club (RBSC) visited for friendly matches against an HKFC select team. “This is not as hot as in Bangkok” Num said, and our guests needed only a little amount of time to warm-up and get on with the matches. Each Club put forward 9 players to contest the best of 5 games.

The first half of the draw produced some surprises - one of our HKFC men lost to an RBSC lady, then our super senior Lam won 3-1 over an RBSC player nearly 40 years his junior. The matches got more intense as we proceeded to the 2nd half of the draw where the fittest competed.

A minor injury cut short an exciting match between our 2-time Club champion Malcolm Kerr and Haroon. Following some usual icing and forensics on the injured muscle, the final match of the night started between Thailand’s number 1 ‘Win’ and our 5-time Club champion and top master Lincoln Chan. The two exchanged breathtaking signature shots, and it was a grueling 3-2 win to Lincoln. HKFC won with a final score of 5 to 3 rubbers.

True to the Thai Ways, our guests brought us souvenir t-shirts and smiled as Win presented the plate to us. What a joy to host our friends from RBSC and an eventful evening, ensuring many more friendly matches to come between our Clubs.
