LADIES PRE-SEASON SQUASH REPORT by Ladies captain Rachel Sutcliffe

Ladies’ squash has grown significantly over the past two seasons and there are now over 50 lady players in the HKFC squash section. This season we will be seeking to build on previous season’s competitive successes in Divisions 2 and 3.

The Squash Committee is also very keen to increase ladies’ attendance at the numerous socials throughout the year and their involvement in the competitive squash events and a wide range of tours run by the section.

Following trials some new sports preferred members have joined the section over the summer who I am sure will help strengthen our teams for this season.

The section also has some very strong junior members who I hope will continue to support and play for the teams and take part in the section squash events.

The 2015/16 season will see HKFC Ladies Squash with 6 teams:

1 team in Division 1 playing at HK Squash Centre on Thursday nights

3 teams in Division 2 playing at HKFC and away venues on Tuesday nights

2 teams in Division 3 playing at HKFC and away venues on Friday nights

All teams will have squads of around 10 players and teams comprise 5 players plus a reserve in division 3. Division 2 will be four players per team, plus a reserve and Division 1is three players plus a reserve.

Each team has a Convenor who work really hard during the season in picking and organising the teams for match nights. The convenors this season are:

Division 1 – Yurissa

Division 2 – Pat Choong,

Division 3 – Chin, Shelley

Masters 4 - Rachel

A new Masters 4 team, playing on Monday nights is also being introduced, which will give another opportunity for ladies to play league squash.

All Sports Preferred members must be available for 75% of their team’s matches, plus attend a minimum of 4 events a year. Events include both socials eg Start of Season Party, squash tournaments and competitions throughout the year.

Ladies can also take part in the Ladies’ Squash Ladder throughout the season, plus team training nights and coaching sessions. There will also be some inter club social matches organised again – watch this space…

I am keen to hear from all the lady players and members if they have ideas for events and socials, comments on what the section could do better or just general feedback – please let me know. I really hope to see all ladies taking part in all the section offers this season.

I would like to wish all the section’s players and especially the ladies an enjoyable and competitive season. Play hard, have fun and get involved both on and off the court – this is your section, so let’s make it even better this year! Good squash!
