2015/16  Winter League Summary (by Julian Tanner & Rachel Sutcliffe)

The winter league season has finished with the play-offs still being hotly contested to see who can win the finals. Many HKFC Squash teams have already won silverware with much more still up for grabs in the play-off finals. The football club had a fantastic season with five teams crowned league champions. These are Div 7 (Leo Kwok),  Div 9 (Philip Ting), Div 11 (Rajesh Mulchand), Div 14a (James Osmund) and Div M2A (Simon Ho). Division 8 (Alex Berriman) have also won their play-off finals.

Here is an update on how the teams performed this season.

Division 2

Ho Fai Chiu’s HKFC 2B team finished in 3rd place with HKFC 2A finishing 4th. This led to a mouthwatering play-off first round game which 2B won 4-1. Unfortunately in the next round of the play offs 2B played the league champions KCC 2A who eventually went on to do the double after not losing all season.

Division 3

HKFC 3 convened by Elliot Froidevaux had a strong finish to the season to finish in 2nd place. They beat league winners KCC in the first round of the play-offs and are now in the final to try and win silverware.

Division 4

HKFC 4 have carried forward their early season form in a tight league and finished 4th.  Finishing on the same points as the team in third position. They have made it into the play-off round 1 and will be looking to make it all the way to become final series winners.

Division 5

David Robinson’s HKFC 5 fought through the season well and finished in 5th place in a strong league.

Division 6

Kien Ng’s 6A and Julian Tanner’s 6B team finished in 3rd and 4th place respectively on exactly the same points and the same number of matches won. In what was one of the tightest divisions the play offs will be very close with the two HKFC teams playing each other in the 1st round.

Division 7

The division 7 teams’ good start continued with them winning the league and being a full 18 points clear of second place. They will now be favourites to do the double when they play in the play offs.

Division 8

HKFC 8 finished well in 3rd position in the league. A playoff position was guaranteed and they went on to make some huge wins beating KCC -who had only lost one game all season- narrowly in the semifinals and then winning the final against Head Advance 7 to be crowned final series champions.

Division 9

Philip Ting’s division 9 team had a very close end to the season but managed to win the league by 2 points. They took the form through to the playoffs first round beating Head Advance 8 but they couldn’t quite manage the double and lost in the finals.

Division 10

HKFC 10 led by Robert Jones finished 4th in a very close division. They have secured their play-off berth and will be looking to take silverware back to Sports Rd.

Division 11

HKFC 11 had a great end of season run to be crowned league champions, finishing on 94 points. They are in the play-offs and looking to try and secure the double.

Division 13

HKFC led by Damien Laracy secured a playoff place by finishing the league in 3rd place. There are some strong teams in the division but they will be trying hard to win in the play-offs.

Division 14

James Osmund’s 14A swept to league victory after losing only 3 matches all season and are favourites for the double.  Brian Taam’s 14 B team finished 7th and unfortunately missed out on a play-off place.

Masters Division 1

M1B finished in 2nd place pipped to the title by HKCC by one point.  They got revenge in the first round of the play-offs winning 3-1. The M1A team finished in 3rd place to book their play-off place.

Masters Division 2

Simon Ho’s M2A team only lost 2 matches all season and was crowned league champions. Nick Shultz’s M2B team finished in 3rd place. Both teams are now in the play-offs and any matches between the two teams could be a lively affair.

Masters Division 3

Dave Cross’ M3A team finished in 3rd place in one of the tightest divisions, to ensure their play-off place.  Michael Yang’s M3B finished in 6th position

Master Division 4

The newly formed masters Div 4 finished with the M4A and M4B teams in 4th and 5th place respectively in what was a very tough league. M4A unfortunately didn’t manage to win their first play-off match so their season is now over.

Ladies Division 1

The HKFC L1 team finished in 6th position in a very strong ladies division 1.

Ladies Division 2

The HKFC L2A team led by Cherly Yat Ching Vong had a strong start to the season and finished the league in 3rd position. They are through to the second round of the play-offs where the play second place KCC. L2C and L2B missed out on gaining a play-off position after finishing 5th and 7th respectively.

Ladies Division 3

Last year’s league winners L3A led by Chin Mcnamara finished in 3rd place. L3B finished in 4th to set up a play-off round match against L3A. L3A were the victors in round 1 and have progressed to round 2.
