Summer League Double Winners- The Mid-Levellers
Andrew Wood, Eddie Wu, Nick Organ (Convenor) and Tim Fan
Summer squash provided those of us who narrowly missed out on entry to the Commonwealth Games and the HK Open with an opportunity to keep our eye in and fitness up during the off season.
8 teams and over 80 players battled out to be league winners, and with several closely fought matches, the Mid-Levellers captained by Nick Organ scraped the title by just a one point margin. With 6 wins out of 7, their only defeat came against Martin Wright's 2nd place Wan Chai Wonders.
With the league finished the top 4 teams entered the cup draw, while the bottom 4 fought to salvage their summer in the plate draw.
In the first round of the cup, Martin Mrosek's Kowloon Kings nearly caused the biggest upset of the summer as they held the Mid-Levellers to a dead-tie, 3-3 in matches and 11-11 in games. But on count-back the Mid-Levellers were awarded the victory. They faced Michael Yang's Peak Pros in the final where Mid-Levellers maintained their dominance and completed the double.
In the plate competition, the final ended in a dead-tie, with Simon Ng's Happy Valley Hackers taking victory on countback over Zach Bitan's Central Champs. The Admiralty Amateurs captained by Mark Rittmayer took the wooden spoon after propping up the table and losing the plate!

A big thanks to the convenors who worked around numerous vacation schedules, and the pool players who stepped in. Particular thanks to Dave Cross, Damien Laracy and Vinod Harjani who played more matches as pool players than the regular players!
