As all HKFC members will know, the section recently invested in the upgrading and refurbishment of courts 5, 6 and 7 – not any ordinary upgrade either, because now the Club stands as the largest all-glass court provider in the world!
The courts have glass panels mounted on supporting brackets against the side and front walls and have been approved by the World Squash Federation for all the top global competitions. The courts are also more durable and therefore have a longer life than more traditional courts.
The club celebrated the opening of the new courts by hosting a World Squash Series event in July and some of the many favourable comments are recorded below by some of the top stars of the game. Get yourself along to try them out (but make sure you wear non-marking shoes!).
“I love the courts because its play replicates a World Series event” – Rachel Grinham, former World Number One, World Champion, 4-time British Open Champion.
“I haven’t been to any other club in the world that has three all-glass courts. It really is a world-class facility and I look forward to playing here again in the future” – Madeline Perry, World Number 10.
“We all enjoyed the courts. They are very true – so they reward a good shot as a good squash court should do” – Line Hansen, Danish Number One, World Number 24.
“The glass courts at the Football Club are the best glass courts in the world. It’s amazing to have not one bit three all-glass courts, as there are only a handful of them around the world. Having glass courts at the Football Club puts the Football Club on another level compared to all the other clubs. It’s always a pleasure to come back and play on these courts” – Amanda Sobhy, Winner of the HKFC Open and World Number 10.
“I love the facilities at the HKFC, a great atmosphere and a great place to train. The courts are really good to play on and it’s great to be able to practice on an all-glass court – to have so many of them at that quality is amazing! I’m looking forward to coming back next time to train” – Alison Waters, World Number 6.
“To be able to compete and practise on courts that replicate the same feel and dimensions of the all-glass courts is astounding. We play finals on the biggest tournaments around the world and the luxury and the opportunity that the Football Club uniquely provides us, makes it a world class facility for any squash player” – Jenny Duncalf, World Number 13.
