2019/2020 HKFC JUNIOR SQUASH PROGRAMME

Registration for the 2019/2020 HKFC Junior Squash Programme is now open.

When
From Sunday 8th September 2019 to the Sunday 30th May, 2020.
(Please note there will be no training during public holidays, major sporting events, HK Squash Open qualifiers, etc. Parents will be notified accordingly during the season.)

Fee
HK$3,200 for HKFC members.
HK$3,400 for non-HKFC members.
 
Equipment

Equipment

HKFC Junior Squash Programme t-shirt, rackets and balls will be provided free of charge. Participants will not be permitted on court without non-marking sport shoes (clear, flesh or white-coloured) and protective eyewear. The junior programme will be able to provide a limited number of goggles but we recommend participants buy their own from the HK Squash Centre on Cotton Tree Drive, or online.

Age Group and Time Slots:
  1. Beginners Group: 1:30pm to 3pm on Sundays
  2. Intermediate Group: 3pm to 4.30pm on Sundays
  3. Advanced Group: 4.30pm to 6pm on Sundays

Mission Statement

Our mission at HKFC Junior Squash is to introduce and promote the game of squash to children at our club. We strive to provide a fun and enjoyable experience to help develop and refine their skills through a safe and healthy environment that accentuates the children’s personal growth and demonstrates good sporting values.

Although we seek to develop our most talented players to a level where they can represent the HKFC at the league level and beyond, our core mission is to bring the game to as many children as possible.

Organisation

Within the Squash Section of the HKFC, a committee of volunteers will oversee the overall programme. The chairperson of Junior Squash is also a committee member of the Squash Section.

Training sessions will be led by two professional qualified squash coaches and assisted by volunteers (adult members of the HKFC squash section).

Structure

1. Entry level and Experienced Beginners Groups - primarily for kids between the ages of 6 years old and 10 years old.

During the year the sessions for Entry Level Beginners Group will include:

  • Learning safety, rules and sportsmanship
  • Basic squash technique, including grip and forehand and backhand swing
  • Fun games, including “squicket”, dodge ball, Racket Control
  • Fitness and speed games
  • Basic shots including the drive, volley and boast

     Experienced Beginners Group will include the following:

  • Learning safety, rules, stretching techniques, scoring and sportsmanship
  • Basic shots including the drive, lob, cross court, volley, boast and serve
  • Fitness and competitive speed games
  • Conditioned games
  • Play the coach
  • ‘One-on-one’ with coach on selected weeks
  • Opportunity to take Hong Kong Squash Bronze Award assessment (see ‘Awards’ section below)

2. Intermediate Group - primarily for kids between the ages of 10 to 13 years old. However younger kids with higher skills and older kids with lower skills would be advised to join here.

During the year the sessions will include:

  • Learning safety, rules, stretching techniques, scoring and sportsmanship
  • Basic shots including the drive, lob, cross court, volley, boast and serve
  • Fitness and competitive speed games
  • Conditioned games and match play
  • Play the coach
  • Competitive inter-group ladder matches
  • Opportunity to take Hong Kong Squash Bronze or Silver Award assessment (see ‘Awards’ section below)
  • Opportunity to be selected for the HKFC Div 18 junior squash squad and for inter-club junior matches.

3.  Advance Group - primarily for kids above 13 years old AND with higher skills, otherwise they will be advised to join the intermediate group.

During the year the sessions will include:

  • Learning safety, rules, stretching techniques, scoring and sportsmanship
  • Development of shot accuracy using conditioned games
  • Fitness and competitive speed games
  • Match play, court strategy and special awareness
  • Play the coach
  • Competitive HKFC junior ladder matches
  • Opportunity to take Hong Kong Squash Silver or Gold Award assessment (see ‘Awards’ section below)
  • Opportunity to be selected for HKFC Div 18 junior squash squad and for inter-club junior matches

Awards

The Hong Kong Junior Squash Award Scheme is the only locally recognized junior squash proficiency scheme in Hong Kong, with the objective of offering junior squash players the opportunity to challenge themselves, to test and develop their squash skills.

The scheme comprises of four levels: Bronze Award, Silver Award, Gold Award and Platinum Award.

At the end of the Program Hong Kong Squash will run a session of the Awards Scheme at the HKFC for our juniors to test their skills. Those that pass will be presented with a certificate and medal during finals day of the HKFC Squash Championships.

Additional Squash Lessons

To give the juniors an opportunity to further develop their skills throughout the week, we would like to offer the following options:

Join the Blade Squash Junior sessions on Wednesday and Friday afternoons, organised and run by HKFC Head Coach Phil Head. Lessons can be organised directly with Phil on an ad hoc basis. The timings are as follows:

Wednesdays              4.30pm - 5.30pm       4yrs to 7yrs               Beginners
Wednesdays              5.30pm - 6.30pm       8yrs to 12yrs             Intermediate
Fridays                      5.15pm - 6.15pm       10yrs to 18yrs           Intermediate
Fridays                      6.15pm - 7.15pm       10yrs to 18yrs           Advanced
