Men's Captain Message for the New Season

Captain.jpgThe 2015/2016 squash season opens on 5th October and promises another season of success, excitement, drama and stories to remember! There are some exciting developments this season.

I’d like to start with people first – we have new members joining across the section of all abilities from Division 2 down to Division 14, and I wish them all a very warm welcome to the wonderful HKFC squash community. New members will inject vigour to the section and I am sure they will contribute in many ways to the section and the HKFC over the coming years. As a suggestion to new members to get to know people beyond your team and the social events, also start challenging and getting ranks on the ladder. Thanks again to Ajay Hazari for efforts in keeping the ladder up to date, and apologies for what could be an increased load in the coming year!

Next is the new Division - we have worked closely with HK squash to deliver a Masters 4 division on Mondays. Starting small (HKFC will be putting in two of the five teams across Hong Kong), we will be doing all we can to bolster, support and expand this new division in the next few years to keep all our members engaged with squash at all levels. The division fits our philosophy of supporting both the competitive and social sides of divisional squash for all our players across the club. Many thanks to the players who will be playing in and supporting the new division.

As a new captain I have various ideas to develop after the veritable maelstrom of team organisation in these recent few weeks. I’d love to hear members’ views on things that are working which we could expand and bolster and other areas where perhaps we could do better. In my view we have already achieved our vision as the leading squash club in Hong Kong thanks to the valuable contributions from our members, sponsors, committee members and many other stakeholders in recent years. We now have the opportunity to develop further as the leading squash club across all of Asia.

But we cannot be complacent and to reach the next level of excellence we need active participation from our whole community so do get involved in ways you can: tournaments, tours, training, junior programme participation amongst so many other events going on. It’s a privilege playing squash at the Hong Kong Football Club, and I look forward to seeing you all around the club.

Best of luck for the new season.
