Squash Club Championship 2016

After 4 weeks of fierce competition with 145 participants competing over 5 categories and 10 titles, the 2016 Squash Club Championship concluded on 18 June 2016 with the men’s final between Ho Fai Chiu playing Raymond Chiu and the ladies final between Carmen Lee and Karen Lau.

The men’s final started with Raymond having more of a central position on the T and making Hoi Fai Chiu scamper around the court to make his trade mark returns. The first game was a tight affair but the retrieving skills of Ho Fai were too much for Raymond who couldn’t seem to find a winner. The second game was very similar with some longer rallies between the pair. Ho Fai upped his game with some fantastic tight drops and boasts to take the game and a 2 nil lead in the match. The third game saw Raymond re-group and start to hit more winners as Hoi Fai looked to possibly be tiring to bring the match back to 2-1.

The 4th game again saw Hoi Fai hitting boast drops and great length shots down the line which were too much for Raymond which meant Ho Fai successfully defended his title by winning the match 3-1.

In the ladies match which was played at the same time, Carmen dominated from the first point making Karen move and have to retrieve some fantastic shots. Carmen kept up the pressure which always saw her have a few points cushion in the first game which she went on to win. The second game was a carbon copy of the first with Carmen’s drop and drives never letting Karen settle with Carmen winning the game to go ahead 2-0 in the match. In the third game Karen looked to be tiring and she started to make a few more errors which led to Carmen winning the game and taking the match 3-0. Which meant she successfully defended her title.

So with Ho Fai Chui and Carmen Lee both getting their name on the honours board for a second straight year they will both be looking to defend their titles in next seasons club championships.

On the same day there were many other finals being played in a friendly, competitive manner. The Men’s Master Cup title was captured by Lincoln Chan and Hugh Dyus successfully defended his Super Master Cup title. Emma Duncombe won the Ladies Master Cup title for the first time. A full summary of results can be found in below table. Congratulations to all finalists and winners for their excellent performances.
